Publisher Description
The last thing you need is another book on leadership. So how is UnLeader different? Leadership-centric conversations dominate the contemporary evangelical church scene. The largest church leadership conferences each year include talks from corporate business executives and world famous CEOs. We are drilled with the message that if it worked for them it will work for the church. There is one overwhelming problem. Jesus himself is not our first choice when it comes to who we model ourselves after as leaders. Many times the life of Jesus directly contradicts much of what is being imported into the church under the mantra of effective leadership. This book is not about eliminating leadership in the church.UnLeader will help you redefine and recalibrate your view of leadership according to Jesus' life. Renew your ministry, reimagine your path to authentic servant leadership, and discover that the only leaders worthy of being followed in the Church are the ones who are following Christ himself.

Full of heart
In my opinion, this has got to be one of the best books available on leadership in the Church. While there are no "10 Steps to..." lists, its intent is to paint a picture on our hearts of what it means to lead as Jesus led: through genuinely humble service. He was God incarnate, yet he did not cling to position, power, or authority in his personal leadership. Nor did he use his followers to amass perks to himself. To one would-be disciple he said, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests. But the son of man doesn't even have a place to lay his head." His heart of love even led him to serve his people by giving his body to torture and death for their (our) benefit. This is the kind of leadership that God approves. Authority is given to empower service, and the greater the authority, the greater the humility that undergirds it needs to be. May God grant us the grace to humbly serve one another in this way.
Please, read this book and let it lead you to the feet of our humble, gracious, wise, and unshakable Lord, Jesus.
