About the Book

Originally subterranean, they now prey on the weak and helpless Eloi. Wells was "fast-forwarding" through the gradual process of changes to species, the physical environment, and the solar system in order to illustrate the Darwinian model of evolution by natural selection. This was accomplished by setting the action almost a million years in the future.
