The OG horror story, Frankenstein. Victor Frankenstein is obsessed with the concept of creating life itself. He plunders cemeteries for the materials to create a new being and uses electricity to shock it into life. However, this misunderstood creation, abandoned by its creator and deprived of human company, sets out to annihilate Frankenstein and everything he holds dear. When Mary Shelley was just eighteen years old and residing with her lover Percy Shelley close to Lord Byron's villa on Lake Geneva, she tells  the terrifying gothic story she is best known for. It would go on to become the most well-known Gothic horror film in history, with Frankenstein's monster becoming an immediately recognizable representation of the limits of human creativity. This timeless story by Mary Shelley is undoubtedly a must-read.
