Egungun: Your Ancestors Are Still Talking

You are not alone. Right now, ten thousand ancestors are working on your behalf.

In the Yoruba tradition, Egungun is the sacred science of the living dead — the masquerade, the ceremony, and the ancestral technology that proves your ancestors have never truly left. Go back just ten generations and you carry the blood of more than ten thousand people: ancestors bound by spiritual law to protect their lineage and to settle their unfinished business through you. They are not gone. They are the cosmic tribe standing behind you, and they are fighting for you right now.

In Egungun: Your Ancestors Are Still Talking, #1 bestselling author Ajarn Shaman Shu (Oluwo Jolaoso Osainbola) opens the African science of ancestral communication — the ceremony, the wisdom, and the practice that lets you hear what your ancestors have been saying all along.

Inside you'll discover:

What Egungun truly is — the Yoruba tradition of ancestral masquerade and veneration
Why you carry more than 10,000 ancestors, and the sacred obligations that bind them to you
The African science of speaking with, and hearing from, the ancestral tribe
How ancestral veneration survived the Middle Passage, from Cuba to Brazil to Haiti to the American South
Building your own ancestral altar and practice
Why connecting to your ancestors is a source of protection no system can break

Part of the acclaimed Spiritual Reparations Series, this is the reclamation of an ancient African science — the wisdom that your ancestors are not history. They are still talking. About the Author
Robert S. Shumake, publishing as Ajarn Shaman Shu, has lived two lives in one — the builder and the priest — and his books are where the two meet. In spirit, each tradition that initiated him gave him a name: Buddhist Ajarn in the Theravada and Vajrayana lines, Oluwo Jolaoso Osainbola in Ifá, and Shri Surya Narayana Swamikal in the Tamil Siddha line. He is the founder of Soul Tribes International Ministries and of Buddha Digital Temple and its universities — Orisha University, Buddha University, and Shiva University. He authored Detroit’s Proposal E, the 2021 ballot initiative that decriminalized entheogenic plants in Detroit, and is the author of more than 140 published books and 86+ DOI-registered academic publications.
