Before the era of superheroes began-before the Batman spread his wings to protect the innocent and punish the evil-Gotham City's prodigal son, Bruce Wayne, had been missing for years. But this was exactly the cover of darkness Bruce needed. Patrolling Gotham's streets in a series of disguises, he began a career as a faceless vigilante. The #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling creative team of Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Danny Miki and Rafael Albuquerque present an astonishing new vision of the Dark Knight's origin-and his first encounters with the Riddler, the Red Hood, and more-in BATMAN VOL. 4: YEAR ZERO-SECRET CITY. Collects issues #21-24.
Did we honestly expect anything else?
I have been almost religiously following Snyder/Capullo's run on Batman, not the least because their work together is just so consistently awesome! I am happy to report that Zero Year-Secret City does not change that. While it does not quite reach the heights of Court of Owls or Death of the Family, it is still an amazing book. Grade: A
Cool origin story, but the listing is misleading...
As I have emphasized throughout the whole "New 52" series (with 5-star ratings), each volume/individual bring in more intrigue and excitement than the previous one. This 4th Batman volume is no exception, providing a fresh new take on Batman's archvillian's (the Joker) origin. Now I could continue to mention how great everything is, but just buy the darn thing already! One thing I do have to point out is that the listing said this 4th volume includes Batman's #21-24 (which are included) as well as Batman #0 and Batman's Annual #2. What is wrong about the listing is the mention of the latter two, which are not actually included within the volume. Don't know who wrote they were, but the listing should be updated to correctly show the actual content of the volume.
Can't wait to start buying the monthly issues now.
Read the book and it was amazing.
