Publisher Description
Texture alpha – exploring surfaces is a photo essay comprising 80 high-quality images that present everyday objects in fresh and interesting ways, often elevating the mundane to ‘art’.
Each image in Texture alpha involves pattern. Some of those patterns are built into an subject’s surface or the scene that the photograph captures, others are the result of an event or the passing of time.
All the images involve light. Some images emphasise how light plays across, is reflected by, or enhances the subject. In many instances, the quality of the light is critical in revealing, or highlighting, the surface texture of the subject.
The photos are collected into five chapters:
1 Living – organic objects and surfaces
2 Under foot – surfaces we can traverse daily without a second thought
3 Flowing – objects and surfaces involving water
4 Around – barriers that protect, support or contain us
5 Overhead – objects and surfaces that protect us from the elements.
Some images are abstract, offering readers a challenge to identify the subject photographed, or even an opportunity to compete with each other in doing so. To this end there are discreet links, on the less-obvious images, to glossary notes.
The glossary notes can also be used to satisfy general curiosity while the reader enjoys the parade of textures, colours and shapes within Texture alpha.
