The Iliad of the Song of Ilion (or Ilium) is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems created by Homer, probably the first and the greatest of Greek epic poets. The poem goes during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of Troy (or Ilion) by a coalition of Greek states. It describes the battles and events during the weeks of a bitter between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles.

The poem covers few weeks in the final tenth year of the siege of the Troy. It mentions many of Greek legends about siege, as well as early events, such as gathering of soldiers, cause of war and related stuff. At the end of poem, the reader realizes it is a more or less complete story of the Trojan War.

The Iliad follows by second book the Odyssey, made by Homer. Both of them are the oldest extant works of Western literature.
