Fundamental
If you are at all interested in phenomenology, and the the history of the philosophy of science, this is an absolutely critical and foundational text.
Husserl's Ideas is the primary text both Heidegger, in Being and Time, and Jean Hyppolite, in his works that are the precursors of French phenomenological speculation leading to Derrida, Lacan and what follows post-modernism (primarily Sloterdijk, on one side, and Zizek, on the other), reacted to. Thus a careful, close reading will train your mind in the habits and metaphors of thought all of these intellectual traditions wrestle with.
Husserl also represents the final stages of phenomenology in the context of the philosophy of science. One realizes the basic principles of critique in same that evolved out of the essentially materialist reaction to his more Platonic speculation.
Don't forget that hermeneutics, as well, dangles and evolves from Husserl. Be it Ricoeur or Baudrillard, the interpretation of interpretation of the text, if you will, is rooted in Husserl.
This is an enormously expensive edition. I discovered a paperback for about $1.99 US that was perfectly adequate as an English translation of this seminal work. It would be good if iBooks could supply that, as well, as at this price point, only the rare library or member of the IMF is likely to purchase a copy!
