Publisher Description

A powerful and emotional debut thriller perfect for fans of It by Stephen King, The Chalk Man by C. J. Tudor and the TV show Stranger Things.

SOMETHING IS HIDING IN THE SHADOWS…

We were so young when it all happened. Just 13-years-old, making the most of the long, hot, lazy days of summer, thinking we had the world at our feet. That was us – me, Fat Bobby, Jim and Tara – the four members of the Outsiders’ Club.

The day we found a burnt-out car in the woods was the day everything changed. Cold, hard cash in the front seat and a body in the trunk… it started out as a mystery we were desperate to solve.

Then, the Collector arrived. He knew we had found his secret. And suddenly, our summer of innocence turned into the stuff of nightmares.

Nothing would ever be the same again…

‘An atmospheric, gritty page-turner’ Alex Lake, author of After Anna

‘I went through every emotion reading this novel’ Sam Carrington, author of Saving Sophie

‘Chilling and absorbing’ Phoebe Morgan, author of The Doll House

About the author

Raised on Marvel comics, horror fiction, The Twilight Zone, and other genre entertainment unsuitable for an impressionable young mind, Seth C. Adams knew he wanted to tell stories at a young age. With a Bachelor's in anthropology from the University of California, Riverside, and completing his Master's in North American History at Arizona State University, as an adult he's learned that real life is indeed often stranger–and more frightening–than fiction. He currently splits his time between California and Arizona, and is always working on, or thinking about, his next story.

If you go down to the woods

Well written, and very Stephen King-ish. However, that being said, if you’re into Stephen King, then there is otherwise nothing new here. I found the characters (all of them, not just the kids in the story) totally unbelievable. I won’t give away spoilers, but the main character of Joe acts childish in one scene and the next scene has him saying, thinking or acting as if he was 15 years older than he is. A dad who’s an apparent street fightin man but a manager of a book store?! A mafia boss that behaves like a serial killer. A sheriff that is menacingly corrupt and violent but can be fended off with a couple of strategically thrown rocks to the face and head. And if I went so far as to investigate something in the woods and actually find that something like these kids, I would certainly want to take a look inside. Not just, oh ok, found it. Now let’s leave and come back some day to hang out and oh yeah, maybe take a look inside at some point in time out of boredom. Then low and behold, when you do look inside, you realize it’s a 5 lb bag full of 10 lbs of potatoes but you didn’t happen to notice whilst hanging out with your friends all those times over the summer. I did not find anything frightening. It was very predictable. The only positive in this read for me was the pacing. The quicker I got through it, the better.
