wonderful story perfect for curling up with a cup of tea.
Every now and then I want a cozy, cute mystery and Rose Pressey brought just what I needed with her new Vintage Mystery Series. Set in Georgia, Cookie Chanel has started her own second-hand clothing store. And Cookie is just a great character with a touch of psychic talent, a thriving business, a flirtation with the town’s detective and a mysterious cat that appears and adopts her.
Cookie first meets Charlotte at her estate sale, where she learns that the ghostly Charlotte is, aside from being a bit of a diva, a chatty Kathy who pontificates on everything, and won’t go away until Cookie identifies her murderer.
I enjoyed the interplay between these characters and the conversations often had me laughing out loud. Charlotte has an opinion on everything, some are frankly quite spot on, but Cookie also has several strong opinions and arguing with a ghost when no one else can see her is a losing proposition. When Cookie becomes the next to receive threats, and Detective Valentine is the awkward newcomer trying to fit in and find both the threat to Cookie and the culprit in Charlotte’s murder.
With a cast of eccentric characters that includes Cookie’s friend Heather, a potentially psychic Persian cat and the backfill scenery of townspeople and other moments, mixing in the fashion tips and descriptions of style and clothing from years past, this was a wonderful story perfect for curling up with a cup of tea.
