When Ilias arrives in Australia from Greece in the 1920s, his attempts to start a new life are constantly undermined by a society that refuses to accept him as ‘Australian’. Will he ever feel that this new country is his home?


Ilias won the The Australian / Vogel National Literary Award (for an unpublished manuscript) in 1987 and was first published in 1988.
