In the Afterlight
A Darkest Minds Novel
Book three in the hit series that's soon to be a major motion picture starring Amandla Stenberg and Mandy Moore--now with a stunning new look and an exclusive bonus short story that delves into the mind of Clancy Gray.
Ruby can't look back. Fractured by an unbearable loss, she and the kids who survived the government's attack on Los Angeles travel north to regroup. Only Ruby can keep their highly dangerous prisoner in check. But with Clancy Gray, there's no guarantee you're fully in control, and everything comes with a price.
When the Children's League disbands, Ruby rises up as a leader and forms an unlikely allegiance with Liam's brother, Cole, who has a volatile secret of his own. There are still thousands of other Psi kids suffering in government "rehabilitation camps" all over the country. Freeing them--revealing the government's unspeakable abuses in the process--is the mission Ruby has claimed since her own escape from Thurmond, the worst camp in the country.
But not everyone is supportive of the plan Ruby and Cole craft to free the camps. As tensions rise, competing ideals threaten the mission to uncover the cause of IANN, the disease that killed most of America's children and left Ruby and others with powers the government will kill to keep contained. With the fate of a generation in their hands, there is no room for error. One wrong move could be the spark that sets the world on fire.
Everything built up in the previous two books comes to a powerful conclusion here. A lot of slow building in the first half or so, but stick with it because trust me when I say it’s worth it. Ik people complain about a certain choice the author makes, but I actually think it adds a lot of extra depth to Ruby and Liam’s characters. No spoilers, of course, but the ending is super wholesome and I found it very satisfying. I’d actually give this like 4 3/4 stars, but can’t quite do that lol. Just like the last two books, highly recommend for YA Dystopian fans. Thank you, Alexandra Bracken. Can’t wait to read the novella and epilogue.
YES YES YES
The ending of this series wrapped up so so nicely. Still heartbroken about one of the major character deaths and didn’t understand why it was necessarily vital to the plot and conclusion. However, this book was my favorite out of the three. I am so so happy I decided to dive into this trilogy:)
I felt that the ending was to fairytale like for me. I’m not trying to spoil anything so you’ll just have to wait and see. I might just be too mature for the series but the whole series was like jumping off a cliff and then landing on a pillow in a world of rainbows and unicorns. I’m no longer interested in what happens next. I loved this series but the main character is just so stupid. And Liam is too perfect for a story like this. But then again I might just be to mature for the series. The only character that was worth any time and interest was Clancy, you’ll see what happens to him ( it’s stupid).
