A slow start, but it gets better
When I read this book, it was entertaining although the start was a little slow. Perhaps that’s because the author was establishing the story world of the game and so there wasn’t any kind of mystery or large-scale conflict.
However, I really liked Ray’s personality and how he shows his character in the face of danger. He’s ordinary and yet heroic at the same time, and it’s his empathy that ends up giving him incredible strength and power.
The book was good enough to make me want to read volume 2, and I’m glad I did because that’s really where the story picks up. So while volume 1 is a slightly slow start, it’s worth it to read it if only to get to volume 2, when things really get super interesting.
