This allows them greater flexibility and control over the e-mail traffic. Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server can be used to connect your network to the Internet so that you can send e-mails to or receive e-mails from other users on the Internet. This article describes how to install and configure Exchange 2000 Server and the related services in a network enabling you to send and receive Internet e-mail.

Good and short
The Exchange version 2000 is old but the book explains how to setup everything to make the Internet emails work, and the same principles for DNS and SMTP apply to the current email server versions. This is a good short tutorial book.
