Publisher Description

**This is a Kindred Tales PLUS novel--over 95,000 words long**
Lizabeth Paige is mortified. Ever since a terrorist introduced the Xi-46 lust compound into the air ducts of the Mother Ship, she had been experiencing attacks of sexual needing that leave her helpless to resist her lustful urges. Much to her embarrassment, her assistant Lone helped her with the first attack, but she's been managing on her own (though not very well) ever since. She feels drawn to Lone, but he's much too young for her. Lizabeth tells herself it's better if they keep their distance.

Lone has been in love with his boss from day one. As a Twin Kindred who lost his twin at birth, he doesn't think he can call a mate but he wants Lizabeth with his whole heart. Helping her through her first needing attack was like a fantasy come true but now, for some reason, Lizabeth is trying to cut him out of her life. Desperate to bring her closer, he is elated when the Kindred High Council decides to send the two of them to The Tower of the Higher Mind for some extra training.

But there are dangers lurking at the Tower, which is located at the top of the Sacred Mountain. At its base live the Friezens—a tribe of savage, misogynistic natives who believe women are only useful for sexual-sacrifice. And in the Tower itself,
some very strange customs hold sway. Lizabeth is now a "Mistress" and Lone must be her "Novice," serving her in every possible way. Pulled between two extremes, will the terrors of the Tower draw them together…or kill them?

You'll have to read Instructing the Novice to find out.

Love the Kindred

If you have read any of the Kindred Tales then you know what to expect. Lots of heat and one giant Kindred devoted to his female. This story has one woman that is a brilliant lawyer for the Kindred and her assistant is a Kindred. There will be a lot of tension mostly caused by her belief that she is too old for her handsome assistant and it wouldn’t be proper. Thankfully he isn’t about to let that stand. The story really goes fast but is so detailed. I could of read it in one night if I was allowed to by the family. I love how the main characters are so well written. There are some scenes that might be triggers to some. But remember these Tales always have a HEA.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I just wanted to shout

Okay so the book is okay. I like it (I love the first few books in the series a lot more) I just wanted to say throughout the book I just wanted to shout we GET IT. You shouldn’t have those thoughts about you assistant or he is very young. It got so repetitive with that! I get that’s her character struggle but dang! Overall decent book.

Repeat, repeat, repeat

I’ve read a lot of this author’s books and in general I enjoy them and if you’ve written dozens and dozens of books on the same subject I understand there’s bound to be some repetition but it’s getting bad. The author does a better job of fleshing out the warriors, clearly the subject she’s the most interested in not that I blame her, than the female characters. It’s usually hard for me to figure out why the warriors are so very drawn to them even with dreams and pheromones. Lizbeth is just like the women from the other books; insecure, something from her past she’d rather forget, MAJOR body issues and is stubborn/impetuous to the point of being dangerous to herself and her warrior. I really, really disliked Lizbeth. She has a different name, but other than being a 40 something lawyer who’s a jerk with a capital B, she’s the same as the rest. This entire series really misses the mark on empowering figures of all sizes when even the female characters who claim to “embrace their curves” talk about it non-stop. And I think the author is trying to embrace figures of all sizes by having warriors that love them but you have to love yourself and she never really brings the point of self-empowerment home even when she sets it up over and over. Except with one character named Kat from the beginning of the Kindred Bride series who I’d really love to see tossed into an airlock.

The recycling of subjects, forced overly sexual locations and prerequisite slutty outfits while the men beg to be taken seriously but they must save the woman they’re obsessed with for no apparent reason is getting really boring. I kept putting this particular book down. Can’t they just want to sleep together and wackiness ensues? Do they always have to, whoopsie, eat something they shouldn’t have or be drugged purposely that they are forced to have sex for their own good? I don’t know many woman who dreams of being roofied. It was amusing the first half-dozen times but the breast nectar is not sexy anymore especially when it’s always, always acccompanied by so much shame and mortification. This book imparticular she’s embarrassed, ashamed, too old, too fat and then she does it all over again! And again! And again! Get her a scarlet letter already.

Like any good romance theres always some major communication breakdown leading to a serious fight/breakup where one or both of the characters is very emotionally wounded and they might be seperated forever. Gasp! Which is then resolved within 1-1/2 pages. The thing is that the conflict, just like the general storyline and over all arc of the series, is always interesting but is never fleshed out. If the same things weren’t repeated constantly there’s be plenty of pages for the thrilling will they or won’t they end up together moment.
