It's a miss
Looking for something like Weber, I wanted to give this book a real chance. Sadly, it's not worth the time. Poorly edited, and the writing really needs tightening up. Has some promising bits but then starts plopping hints of gratuitous sex out like your dog drops turds around the yard. How about some character and plot development so I can care about the spicy stuff, hmmm?
The military part is superficial and poorly integrated, and many of the military decisions and tactics questionable or at least irrational, or even inexplicable given the situation.
And I really wanted something cool to read... Write faster Mr. Weber!
