Fantastic follow up to semiosis
I can’t wait for the next title
Great work of writing flipping perspectives from Multiple species and backgrounds. All believable with perspectives ideals and goals that make sense in their own context and are alien to the others. What a great tale !
Fantastic sci fi
Start with Semiosis, the first book in the series, but keep going with this one. It’s also excellent, and stands alongside the best of Ursula LeGuinn and Octavio Butler. Very readable and highly compelling!
The Conclusion of the Pax Duology
“Interference” is the second volume in the Pax Duology by Sue Burke. In this novel the story begins on Earth in 2303, where a mission is being put together to revisit Pax. We are given a view of the grim state of humanity in the future.
The story then transfers to Pax, where human colonists, the alien Glassmakers, and the sentient and semi-sentient native plant life are now mostly living in harmony. An expedition to the hostile Coral Plains is being undertaken. Then the residents observe the arrival of the starship from earth.
The arrival of the humans from Earth disturbs the fragile balance between the species and the generations of Pax humans. These humans come with new technologies, and old ideas. Will these newcomers disturb the symbiosis that has been achieved on Pax?
This novel explains a lot more about the biosphere on Pax, which is more evolved and robust than that of earth. The interpersonal and interspecies relationships remain the heart of the story. The various viewpoints of the participants leave the reader wondering exactly what is the nature of the relationships between the beings, and who is benefiting the most from them? This is a great dive into biology-centered science fiction, that is as interesting as it is unique.
