Publisher Description
Introduction The aim here is to describe the international context for conservation of the heritage estate as it has evolved over the past several decades and to set out some of the implications for Canada. The focus is on natural heritage, at the expense of a fuller and more balanced treatment of the international context of cultural heritage development. The paper begins with the major global developments which can be discussed in terms of: international organizations; reports and policy statements of global significance; conventions; and international programs. The Canadian contributions and responses to these developments are then discussed and finally, some lessons can be drawn from the international experience.
