Fun new title from Kakeru!
I really like Kakeru’s previous series, and am already hooked on this series. I can’t think of any current author who puts more insanely deep thought into the quirks and mechanics of both practical weapon & armor in relation to the interplay between ‘fantasy’ conflicts involving ‘human’ and ‘near human’ cultures. The author is a great story teller, and so I can recommend these books for what they are. Great yarns!
Probably Kakeru would really get a lot out of a traditional history text about conflicts between ingenenous groups in N. and S. America and the exploration of the ‘New World’. It’s trendy to portray all Native Americans as hostile towards European colonization, or as primative ‘victims’. The truth is much more complex. I’d recommend D. Hacket-Fischers biography of Champlain, the French explorer and founder of Frances N. American colonies as an exceptional example of the genre.
Anyway. Enjoy this series… it’s looking like another good one!
