Publisher Description
Tensions flare in Northwest Asia and Op-Center races to prevent World War III in this chilling, ripped-from-the-headlines thriller from the authors of the USA Today bestseller Out of the Ashes.
When a team of assassins murder a high-ranking North Korean general and his family in their sleep, making it look like a robbery, events are set in motion that could shake the balance of world powers. Meanwhile, a U.S. naval combat ship, the USS Milwaukee, is attacked by North Korean forces in the middle of a training exercise off the shore of South Korea, and Commander Kate Bigelow is forced to ground the ship to avoid being captured. The crew takes refuge on a tiny island, trapped dangerously between the grounded ship and a fleet of hostile North Korean soldiers.
Op-Center intelligence discovers a secret alliance behind the attack--a pact between China and North Korea that guarantees China total control of a vast oil reserve found beneath the Yellow Sea. As both sides marshal their forces for a major confrontation at sea, Chase Williams and his Op-Center organization devise a plan to secretly spirit the American crew from the island and out from under North Korean control. But the North Koreans are not finished. In a desperate gamble, they unleash a terrorist cell on the American homeland. Only Op-Center can uncover their plan and stop it in time to prevent a major catastrophe that could lead to all-out war.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Couch and Galdorisi's stirring sequel to 2014's Out of the Ashes pits Cmdr. Kate Bigelow, captain of the USS Milwaukee, and her crew against North Korean naval and special forces units intent on seizing the ship, which has been conducting training exercises in the sea off South Korea. The North Koreans have found vast undersea energy deposits in international waters and have made a secret deal to sell them to the Chinese. Taking the ship hostage will give them leverage against the U.S., which will surely oppose this deal. Bigelow proves to be a formidable foe, managing to outrun and outgun her North Korean adversaries. She runs the Milwaukee aground on the small island of Kujido, sets up a defensive base, and settles in to wait for friendly forces to come to the rescue. Tasked with that mission is Chase Williams, director of the secret Op-Center, who with other elements of the U.S. military attempt to pull off a daring, skin-of-the-teeth operation. A terrorist attack on the United Nations provides an exciting coda.
Customer Reviews
Into the Fire
Good fast paced action , the drawback is that these carriers of the Clancy tradition have succumbed to the present day greed of current day authors. Charging high prices for a short 250 page mini-book.
Tom would be embarrassed that his legacy has stooped so low.
Into the Fire
I was extremely disappointed with this attempt the revive and continue the Op Center saga. The dialogue between the characters is unnatural and forced. The authors spend countless pages leading up to an action sequence and then gloss over it while ending it abruptly. This is not a publication worthy of Tom Clancy's name on it's cover.
Hot, hot, hot
This novel, into the fire is a story along the vein of Tom Clancy. These two authors write a good story where the seams are quite smooth. Their style of writing is so similar you can not see the difference as to who wrote what portion. The main tale surrounds the furtive activity of the North Koreans as they try to cause an American ship to flounder.
