Introducing the Prophecy of Amos

Amos is one of the key exponents of justice and righteousness in the whole of the Old Testament. In this prophecy he gives this nation of prosperous, self-important, imprudent people a message from the Lord that they really do not want to hear!

This booklet looks at the political background to Amos’ prophecy and the tactical way he presents his message, first listing the fate of the surrounding regions before finally homing in on his target Israel. The long list of their transgressions and judgements is explained, along with the call to repent and a grim, though eloquent, reminder of the Lord’s infinite power.
