Many fine calculus texts exist.  However, there is neither a single course nor a single text in Introductory Calculus that is optimum for every school, instructor or group of students. Chapters 1 and 2, describe differential and integral calculus emphasizing a visual as opposed to an equation-based approach to learning, except where calculus notation is explained.  Graphs and cartoons are interspersed throughout to enhance an appreciation of the concepts.  This intuitive approach enables even youngsters to grasp the most basic ideas behind the foundation of modern calculus.

Traditionally, simply mentioning the word “calculus” has created a phobic reaction to mathematics for many people.  That word triggers thoughts of an esoteric branch of learning that is alien and out-of-reach for the average student to grasp.


However, I believe the concepts of calculus are actually quite intuitive and well within the comprehension of anyone.


That hypothesis has been the driving force for me to write this book, which is dedicated to everyone from the high school student, to the much too ubiquitous mathematically challenged adult.

It is my intent that the approach to learning this book takes makes as many students as possible realize that calculus can be a fun as well as intuitive subject.  If it accomplishes this, and convinces a single reader to enter a scientific profession where they can be productive and make meaningful contributions to society in whatever career they choose pursue, it will have been a success.
