Invisible

At sixty-four, Ruth Taylor has begun, perhaps without noticing, to become good at being in a day without anyone knowing she was there.

One morning, she holds her hand up to the light and can see through it.

Invisible is the unsentimental story of a woman fading from the world, passed over at the deli counter, walked through on the sidewalk, unseen by a father whose mind is slipping, who begins to notice she is not the only one. A pair of birds on a fence. A man in a gray suit across the aisle of a church. A small brown dog in a park. Everywhere she goes, there are others like her: unseen by the world, seen by each other.

In the slow accumulation of small recognitions, Ruth begins to find her way back.
