I think the description is way off base. This is not a novel about small town racism. It is a novel about the limits of human memory and the intrinsic deficiencies in eyewitness testimony. It is also a reprise of the familiar down-and-out attorney-redeems-himself theme. It is well written and engaging, and I enjoyed reading it.
