Classroom teachers value having time for daily listening to individual student-read passages with subsequent support through appropriate, personalized feedback. Integrating an iPad and screencasting app into the reading process gives each student transformative tools to capture his or her reading text aloud and then archives recordings within the student’s portfolio. During field testing of the project, students became highly motivated to practice reading, empowered to self-assess the quality of their samples, and progressed towards greater fluency. Classroom teachers, parents, reading specialists, and administrators appreciated the depth of detail captured within the student artifacts further facilitating development of unique reading strategies for each learner.
