Publisher Description
Syria's alliance with Iran Hard to Shake Up During his recent visit to London, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem said his country could help resolve issues that cause instability in the Middle East, but he dodged questions about the possibility of Syria reconsidering its strategic ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Muallem specifically said Syria could help resolve its nuclear disputes between Iran and the West, but would not easily give up its alliance with Iran as the United States and Israel demand. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is on record as having said once, "To demand that Syria give up its relations with Iran is like Syria demanding that Israel break off its ties with the United States."
