Iris Enters the Talent Show‪!‬

Iris is a dragonfly who loves to sing. She is so excited to see the poster announcing a talent show at her school. Everyone says that she is a beautiful singer, of course she will enter the contest! She practices her singing everyday, but as the contest approaches, she becomes more and more nervous. She begins to think that she has to look beautiful too! Iris goes out to gather the prettiest flower petals, seeds and leaves she can find. She uses them to make an elaborate costume and crown for her act. But the costume is quite heavy! Iris notices that all of her friends’ acts are very good, and she feels even more worried. Finally the day of the contest arrives. Her parents do not feel that she needs the costume and try to tell her this, but Iris insists that she does. As she is waiting to go onstage, Iris hears someone crying. It is her friend Poppy Peach! Poppy Peach is too scared to go onstage. Iris gives her a pep talk that is overheard by the scary stage manager, Ms. Rasper. Once it is Iris’s turn, she heads out onto the stage, but her costume is too heavy! She cannot sing! She flees the stage in tears. Ms. Rasper follows her and they have a heartfelt discussion, after which Iris realizes that she does not need any costumes or decorations. She has everything she needs right inside of herself.
