Publisher Description

INTRODUCTION All academic fields are biased toward publishing research that has significant findings and/or confirms existing theory (e.g., Hubbard and Armstrong 1992; Begg 1994; Rosenberg 2005; Stanley 2008). When authors have unexpected findings that are either nonsignificant and/or contradict accepted theory, they face an uphill battle to get their research published, and some may eventually abandon the effort. Manuscripts that have been abandoned are often referred to as being placed in the "file drawer" (Rosenthal 1979), and it is assumed that this file drawer (regardless of academic field) contains some work that should be published. Hence the call for papers for a special topic forum which specifically requested that authors open their file drawer and submit manuscripts that might otherwise never get published.
