Publisher Description
The bestselling author of The Devil Wears Prada and When Life Gives You Lululemons is back with a delicious novel about a trio of best friends in Manhattan who agree to change their lives in the most personal and dramatic way possible—and to do it within one calendar year.
Meet Emmy, Leigh, and Adriana. Best friends since college, each has seen her share of career foils and romantic foibles over the past decade. Now, as they approach thirty, they’re looking toward their future...and they’re not quite sure they like what they see.
When they are each alone on Valentine’s Day, the trio makes a pact. Within one year, each woman will change the thing that most challenges her. For Emmy, it will be to find romance—or a fling—in every foreign country she visits. For Leigh, a book editor with a dream boyfriend and dream apartment, no change seems necessary—until she starts to notice a brilliant and brooding man named Jesse. And for commitment-phobic, drop-dead-gorgeous Adriana, her goal is to have an engagement ring and a house in Scarsdale. Each woman starts the year with the best of intentions—which is exactly why the pact goes immediately, and exceptionally, awry.
Filled with delicious insider details, Chasing Harry Winston whisks readers into the heart of an elite world and unforgettable characters. Let the games begin!
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
For the three best friends in this catty and hilarious story of Manhattan life, turning 30 looks like a finish line—and it’s getting closer all the time. That looming birthday causes neurotic book editor Leigh, aspiring restauranteur Emmy, and Brazilian heiress Adriana to make some totally wild choices…and we had a blast tagging along. Leigh tries to choose between her hunky but predictable boyfriend and a brilliant but married writer, Emmy rebounds from a breakup by vowing to sleep with as many eligible bachelors as possible, and Adriana tries her best to be monogamous. Lauren Weisberger, the author of the megahit The Devil Wears Prada, fills her book with unforgettable characters like the saucy hairdresser Gilles and Emmy’s outrageous African gray parrot, Otis (who can’t stop calling everyone fat), Chasing Harry Winston is a book that pairs perfectly with a cosmo or a dirty martini.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The Devil Wears Prada author Weisberger delivers a hilarious, silly and entirely predictable chick lit romp. Book editor Leigh, chef Emmy and wealthy Adriana make a pact to change their disappointing lives within a year. Emmy vows to find the father of her future babies, and Latin temptress Adriana decides to settle on just one of her rich suitors. But Leigh is uncertain about what changes to make; she's lived in the shadow of her legendary literary father and accomplished boyfriend so long, Leigh barely recognizes what makes her happy. The protective wrapping dissolves when she gets the nod to edit bestselling, married author Jesse Chapman "and ends up polishing more than his prose. Emmy "after a year of trying to bed a man from every continent "might discover Mr. Right when he's least expected. As for the relentlessly slothful Adriana, she deflects engagement, but manages to snag something more important. Bookish Leigh defends chick lit as having sensible structure and coherent language in a package that's witty, clever and fun to read. Weisberger is, of course, also talking about this book, and her assessment is right-on.
Customer Reviews
Frivolous but fun read
Although not as brilliant an effort as The Devil Wears Prada, this book is still a fun, quick read.
Boring
Shallow and boring. Took me forever to finish.
