It has been thirteen years since Janet Baker's husband, Sergeant Robert Baker left for Vietnam. When he did not return from the war, Janet permits Bernard Fouquet, the man who caused her to cheat on Robert to live with her and her son, Robert Lee. Although Janet refuses to marry Bernard, they have Rita Fay.
Bernard is jealous and abusive to Janet and Robert Lee. When Janet and the kids stay overnight on retired Sheriff Charlie Haley's ranch, so that she can rent her grandmother's old mansion for a bed and breakfast, she finds out just how sick and cruel Bernard can be. Was the events of the last twelve years just a bad dream or did they really happen?
