Publisher Description

Jacopone da Todi is reputedly the author of the famous Latin poem "Stabat Mater." He also wrote poems in the Medieval Italian language. In these poems he talked about the birth of Christ and the excellence of poverty. He pictured Christ as reproving him, and he expressed his own personal repentance. Prominent themes are humility and spiritual love.
Also included in this book are a few biographical facts, such as his persecution by Pope Boniface VIII and his own ascetic excesses.
