Publisher Description

Action by the plaintiff James Jeffers to recover damages for personal injuries and property damage arising out of a motor
vehicle collision against the defendant Peoria-Rockford Bus Company. The defendant counterclaimed for its property damage. The accident occurred at about 10 o'clock on the evening of November 28, 1954, within the north corporation limits of the
city of Beloit on United States Highway 51 opposite the Fairbanks-Morse manufacturing plant, such highway running in a northerly
and southerly direction. At this point such highway has three traffic lanes, each ten feet in width. In addition to these
three lanes there is an extra lane of concrete roadway adjoining them on the west, which fourth lane extends northerly a distance
of 282 feet from the railroad spur track leading into the Fairbanks-Morse plant as measured from the west curb line. Such
extra lane is six feet in width and the gutter and curb together provide an additional two feet of width. The railroad spur
track crosses the highway at a sharp angle and runs in a southwesterly and northeasterly direction.
