Jefferson County Public Schools. Overcoming the Achievement Gap Trap

The Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) system, located in Louisville, Kentucky, is empowering the individual voices of students, educators, and community members. Twenty-seven JCPS Area 4 principals and district leaders engaged in the digital book chat “Overcoming The Achievement Gap Trap.” The administrative team, also referred to as “Champions,” examined and created action steps for the application of book’s content. The JCPS empowerment journey was anchored by the school district’s vision, mission, and focus areas. Through the use of Personalized Professional Development (PPD), the leadership team used anytime, anywhere digital technology to engage in a realtime learning experience via their mobile devices. The Area 4 leadership team was able to digitally Capture-Curate-Share their learning experience, while enhancing the following JCPS strategic goals:

1. Deeper learning.

2. Increasing capacity and leadership culture.

3. Communication, engagement, and using technology for learning.
