Jefferson's Masterpiece

Jefferson’s Masterpiece tells the compelling story of the Declaration of Independence through the eyes and actions of the men who created America’s birth certificate. It is a behind-the-scenes narrative based on daily events between June 11 and August 2, 1776.

The story begins with the first meeting of the Committee of Five to choose the person to write the Declaration of Independence and concludes with the dramatic signing 7 weeks later. Young readers follow the daily activities of Thomas Jefferson and members of the Second Continental Congress as the Declaration is written, edited, approved and signed. They learn why the Founding Fathers, during difficult times and circumstances, declared the colonies independent from Great Britain and created the United States of America.
