Jen - A Memoir

One woman's journey of resilience through the depression, war and a changing world.

Jennette's life began during the Great Depression and stretched into the digital age.

And she was determined to write it all down.  

 After a cosy childhood in Mitcham, Jennette's world was upended when her father returned from the war, and couldn't settle down. Thus began a girlhood spent on horseback, with rifle in hand, moving from station to station; until she had to adjust to town life and the trials of being a teenager.

But this was only the beginning!

Jen is a life story written with wit and humour, recounting decades of change and the universal journey of discovering who we are.

Whatever the stage of life, Jennette managed to make an adventure of it – as a nurse in the 1950s, as a farmer's wife with headstrong in-laws, and finally as an active member of the town of Melrose – where there were always events to run, committees to join, and natural disasters to respond to.

A story full of highs and lows, laughter and moments of profound reflection, Jen is a journey through time, and a legacy of love, resilience, and connections to eras past.
