Overall helpful

I have to admit that I love JoJo and I am fond of her wisdom when it comes to children. I purchased this book when my youngest was 2 years old. But didn’t read it until now, he is 4 years old. I was worried the information would not apply due to his age. But it was actually very helpful! In fact, I applied some of her techniques on my older kids as well.

I am constantly reminding myself to SOS during conflicts now and trying to come from a place of understanding for their behavior (i.e. they are excited and expressing it by being loud and hyper, they are tired and had a rough sleep, they are hungry since we are running behind schedule, etc).

I have always done time-outs, but this gave me more structure. It was a good reminder to not let my children talk their way out of them. Now I start to count and they shape up!

Lastly, and the main reason I am giving this book 5 stars is, I had a night were I was struggling to put all 3 of my boys to bed. They were screaming, getting out of bed, jumping in beds, arguing, etc. I was at 2.5 hours of going in to their rooms to stop the behavior, time outs, and taking away privileges. Nothing was working. At some point, they exhausted themselves and fell asleep. It isn’t always this way, but I’ll admit I felt defeated. I crawled to my bed and felt like crying. Opened my book and lo and behold, my next chapter happened to be on bedtime routines!!

JoJo explains that Kids know this is the last time of the day, the last bit of your attention they will get. So they will act out in any way (good or negatively) to get your last ounce of attention. They really each just want quality time with me and are willing to accept negative attention. I set out to change their bedtimes according to each age and give each child one-on-one mommy time. I get them ready, read them a book, and sing them a lullaby. The key here is, I do it individually so it isn’t shared time. Just us two. No more fighting. No more crying. No more getting out of bed. And it warmed my heart to hear my boys tell me it’s one of their favorite times of the day now.

Whether you have little angels or little demons, get this book! It’s filled with structure, studies, and advice!

Life saver!!!

My 18mo old started throwing major tantrums all of a sudden. We were at wits ends so I decided to give this book a try. We implemented Jo's suggestions and my toddler was a different person on the very first day! We are now enjoying each day with her more than ever!!!! Highly recommend! Thanks Jo!!
