A Guide to reading LeCarré
I have read & watched LeCarré stories for 50 years. I was vaguely aware that not all were about George Smiley. But I enjoyed the experience. Now, with the passing of the author I decided to do a serious review. What had I read or seen? & what had I missed? This little guide to his work is exactly what I needed.
At the risk of boring you with my progress, I’ve set out to re-read all of LeCarré. This guide not only showed me the order in which his stories were written but which stories involved George Smiley.
My plan took shape when I saw it’s magnitude. I had a few of the books but over the years had loaned them to friends. So I decided to read them on my iPad ... eBooks (with the advantage that I can enlarge the font).
Now I have the complete (almost) LeCarré and am well into the Smiley series. If I read nothing else it’s a year’s supply. I have most of the videos of his works, so I can compare original story to the screenplay. Already I have confirmed my suspicion: Read the book before you see the movie!
All thanks to Mr.Berk’s little guide: It has been key in my approach to reading LeCarré.
Exactly what I was looking for
When I started reading “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” I thought I was missing something, but not so.
