Publisher Description
In the life of every person, who receives a higher education, in or out of schools, there is a time when there seems to be opposition between science and religion; between man-made and God-made knowledge. The struggle for reconciliation between the contending forces is not an easy one. There are thousands of young people in the Church to-day, and hundreds of thousands throughout the world, who are struggling to set themselves right with the God above and the world about them.

The Science of the Gospel
Published in 1908, Elder Widtsoe, a Seventy (later Apostle) and Scandinavian-born scientist offered this powerful science-backed testimony of the divine nature of the mission of the prophet Joseph Smith. He points out the scientific nature of many of Joseph’s revelations, and the fact that they were usually received dozens of years ahead of equivalent secular scientific discoveries.
His scientific vocabulary is wonderfully dated, adding to this fascinating treatise of “modern science” from over a century ago.
I learned that scientists of his day were convinced that the Aether (aka Ether) was real. Scientists of our day speak of dark energy and dark matter, strangely similar in nature to the Luminiferous aether of yester-century’s science. If we learn nothing else, it’s that all things evolve. What a delightful and unique perspective. Very quotable. Enjoy!
