The story throughout the sonnet cycle Katharina and Bianca is based loosely on William Shakespeare’s play The Taming of the Shrew.

The context of gender ideology is modern. The two cats Katharina and Bianca manifest different kinds of female-dominance behaviour and, like the humans, are called after characters in Shakespeare’s play.
