Hinduism is said to be the “Gibraltar of heathenism,” and the caste system can well be said to be its stronghold. Satan could not have devised a more effectual means of retarding the spread of the gospel. 

Caste is a system by which birth determines once for all the whole course of a man’s social and domestic relations. In the Hindu sacred scriptures, the caste system is considered of divine origin. The idea that underlies the whole system is “I am much better than you.” 

This book speaks of the Hindu people, more specifically of those in the region of Kerala, but also to them as a whole and to the missionaries who left home and loved ones to reach the despised and outcast, serving them in lowliness and love.
