A nerdy wallflower recruits her athlete roommate to give her love lessons
As a Highland Games athlete and firefighter, I’m used to women trying to get under my kilt. But I never expected to be propositioned by my bookworm roommate.
Casey’s one of my best friends and my buddy’s younger sister. What am I supposed to do when she confesses that she’s on a mission to lose her virginity—and I’m the guy she trusts to do the deed?
If I say no, she’ll only turn to another dude instead. Someone’s got to keep her out of trouble, so I agree to give her some hands-on experience. A little friends-with-benefits action shouldn’t be a problem. I can teach Casey how to bring a man to his knees and still keep things platonic.
Uh, yeah. Small problem. The more boxes we check off on Casey’s lesson plan, the more it seems I’ve taught her too well.
Because the man she’s bringing to his knees is me.
KILT TO ORDER is a sizzling small town brother's best friend romcom that features a found family of muscly men in kilts, a spunky booknerd virgin, a protective playboy roommate who agrees to be her love coach, and a guaranteed HEA for these two adorable friends to lovers.

Really enjoyable read
I found this trope (older virgin) to be uniquely done. The writer made it seem truly possible that someone could have actually made it to late 20’s a virgin. I liked both the main characters. And when the inevitable third act possible breakup happens you don’t have to read chapters till the lovers come to their senses. There is good communication between them. It isn’t perfect or we wouldn’t have a story. But I never had the urge to slap either of them. And I’m now of to read this author’s King series.
Stand alone in series
Susannah Nix is one of the authors I follow for new releases, so I started Kilt To Order without reading the description. I was a bit worried when I got to the part about the heroine being inexperienced because I prefer older characters, but I shouldn’t have worried. Don’t let that stop you from reading this book. I really enjoyed the story and I’m looking forward to more stories in the Kilt Trip series. It’s set in the same town as the King Family series, so now I also want to back and listen to the audio versions of that series (since I’ve already read them).
Update - I just listened to the audio version of Kilt to Order and was able to experience the book in a different way. Since it was my second time through, all the firsts for Gareth stood out and it was more apparent that both characters were a little out of their comfort zone.
The audiobook is narrated by the team of Callie Dalton and Lee Samuels. I thought they did a great job with the narration.
I received a copy of the book at my request, and the opinions here are my own.
Roommates-to-lovers & brother’s best friend!!
I reviewed the eARC back in July & I'm back with an updated review of the audiobook. Thanks to the author for the early copy of this beautiful book and the chance to give my candid review. Thanks to Home Cooked Books for the ALC of the audiobook. Swipe for book blurb.

Story Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 4.5/5
Audiobook Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧 5/5
Overall Rating: 4.75/5
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 (0-5)
What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🎧 The narrators are wonderful—they make the steam more intense and the longing more heart-wrenching.
🎧 And the comedy seems even funnier too: "No rumpy pumpy in the living room." 🤣
🎧 The narration definitely enhances all the feels of this fabulous story.
🤩 Roommates and friends-to-lovers PLUS brother’s best friend.
🤩 And, let’s make a deal—you help me and I’ll help you.
🤩 The dedication: “For every wallflower who’s looking for a reformed rake to sweep her off her feet.” This one spoke to the quiet introvert in me.
🤩 Laugh-out-loud funny. I’m so sorry Casey but that date!
🤩 But also all the feels and deep emotions.
🤩 Gareth is total book boyfriend material. I fell in love with him when he hugged Casey after her horrible date. He’s so thoughtful, honest, fun, and funny.
🤩 When Casey’s friends historical romance trope her: “It’s one of those stories where the shy wallflower asks the notorious rake to give her s*x lessons so she can learn to seduce someone else!”
🤩 Two of the hottest first and second kissing scenes I’ve ever read.
🤩 The steamy couch scenes are fantastic, especially the one where the other roommate is still in the house!! I’ve reread them already. So very movie worthy.
🤩 Protective fireman carry (yes, Gareth is a fireman)!
🤩 I have the cutest cuddle quote for you: “I didn’t realize you were such a cuddler.” “Neither did I,” he says as if he’s surprised himself. “Why haven’t we been doing this all along? What a f*$%ing waste.”
🤩 Highland Games lessons!
🤩 Indie bookstore love!
What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 This whole book feels like romcom perfection—all the feels but fun and flirty. I believe in the HEA. But, two things: 1. Gareth needs some therapy & 2. I’m kind of picky about needing some physical connection (steam) after the drama/time apart—it helps solidify the HEA in my greedy reader heart.
💫 The King Family series has been on my TBR for way too long—totally bumping them up.
