Kimchi

Paul Angers (Kimchi) has an identity problem. He is mixed race (Afro-Asian), adopted by an American couple and brought to the U.S. after the Korean war. Eighteen years later, Paul is a paramedic at a Kansas City fire department with a racist Fire Chief who hates both Koreans and Blacks.

Kimchi will entertain you with Paul's knowledge of martial arts and fire rescues—he has a black belt in Judo!—and will soothe the racist beast that may lurk unbidden inside of you. A gritty story of compassion and warm memories of his Korean mother, Cam, who was forced to abandoned him at an orphanage when he was four years old.

One day Paul meets Rikki, a girl with troubles of her own, who transports passengers around a local park with a homemade rickshaw. This experience takes him back mentally and emotionally to his East Asian homeland. Who is this girl and what does she want? Paul intends to find out!
