Publisher Description
John and Emily are a perfectly normal couple living in near-future suburban America, with plans to attend a perfectly normal Halloween party with Emily dressed in a perfectly normal android costume. But Emily has an accident, so John steps up to take her place, and that's where things start to go wrong. Because the hollowed-out android they bought from John's brother is supposed to be dead, and isn't supposed to be influencing his actions, and when the time comes to take it off, it's supposed to let him out...
A novel of transformation, alienation, and isolation.
Customer Reviews
Fantastic and unpleasantly relatable (that’s a good thing)
Never actually written a review on here but this book was great, and I want to praise it a bit. Gut wrenchingly tragic and heartbreaking and hopeful and heartwarming, once the story got going and started to sink its claws into me I was nearly compelled, despite the intense anxiety it sometimes caused, to power through to the end, because I just needed to know how it all turned out.
This is a trans story, through and through. I saw myself in it’s characters, I related deeply to their pain and joy, it was a reminder that I’m not alone, that there are others like me, that as unrelentingly cruel as the world can be there’s still hope and comfort to be found in the people we love, and the family we make.
That probably sounds extremely cheesy but it affected me deeply.
Please read this book.
Read it in one sitting, no regrets
Great trans body horror sci-fi, harrowing and heartwarming in equal measure.
