Publisher Description

The astonishing debut thriller that sets a reluctant hero on a collision course with historical destiny.

Frenchy Degnan has always dreamt of being a real-life Indiana Jones. Obsessed with the Sword of Goliath, he publishes a history of the lost artifact with theories on its recovery but his research is discredited and dismissed. Years later, Frenchy is depressed, divorced, and nowhere closer to finding the famous Philistine’s weapon of choice. But when the Israeli government takes a strong and sudden interest in the recovery of the sword, Frenchy is thrown into a dangerous world of religious intrigue, political deception, and ruthless murder.

Acutely aware of his limitations and insecurities, he finds himself torn between fulfilling his lifelong dream of recovering the ancient relic or succumbing to his own self-defeating fears. However, the decision isn’t as simple as it seems. Frenchy, along with his mentor’s daughter, Sarah, and his student, Ricky, find their own government increasingly hostile and are forced to trust a traditional enemy.

A great adventure story!

King David's Legacy is an adventure story that feels like your are sitting with the characters the entire story. The author uses vivid imagery that makes it feel as if you are in the cruise ship with Frenchy, or trotting across the middle east and you are standing next to them the entire time. The characters really hold your attention and make this an easy read - it is not just an adventure novel that comes across like another Dan Brown classic, but there is a real focus on the personal struggle as well and you spend the novel relating to Frenchy and what his inner struggle is. King Davids Legacy is the perfect mix of heavy, funny, adventurous, and a little bit of Indiana Jones - and it is worth a read for sure.

It's sure to please

For those readers who love to see binaries jump off the page in the most delightful ways, Mr. Sekel blends sarcasm and unvarnished honesty, the dramatic with the deadpan, loftiness with humility, humor and gravitas--all framed through some very candid and touching writing. Those who read this book may appreciate the polystylistic flare, as Sekel borrows elements from several written genres. For me, however, the novel reads as a courageous attempt on the author's part to capture even the minutest nuances of life in as diverse a place as Hudson County, NJ (particularly in the dialogue of the main character Frenchy and company), and repackage them into a multifaceted story of political intrigue, adventure, and a touch of mystique. Finally, Sekel's ability to weave so many literary and pop-culture references into his prose makes the book, which already can stand on its feet for organization and plot, all the more delightful. Most definitely: give this book a try.
