King Lear is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. The play tells the story of a king who decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters. Two of the daughters, Goneril and Regan, flatter their father and receive a large portion of the kingdom. The third daughter, Cordelia, refuses to flatter her father and is given nothing. Lear is then betrayed by his two eldest daughters and goes insane.
