Publisher Description

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the acclaimed Alphabet series comes a collection of stories that “combines glimpses of her series detective, Kinsey Millhone, with a revealing self-portrait” (Publishers Weekly).

In 1982, Sue Grafton introduced Kinsey Millhone and created an iconic female detective. Here, in a story collection divided into two parts, Sue Grafton provides a glimpse of her own early life in the guise of the character Kit Blue, and enriches our understanding of Kinsey Millhone, one of the spunkiest, smartest, and most entertaining private investigators in all of mystery fiction.

“Terrific...The Kinsey stories and the Kit stories together open a window into Grafton's soul.”—USA Today

RIP Sue Grafton

“The P.I.has transformed from the projection of our vices to the mirror of our virtues”

Sue Grafton died after a battle with cancer at the end of last month. I thought it was time to pull this book off my TBR and read it.

What I found were a bunch of short stories written by Grafton that showcase Kinsey Millhone, her well known star of the Alphabet series. I was introduced to this character by another friend, and have read almost all of them. I eat pickle and peanut butter sandwiches. At one time, I wanted to live in her “tiny house”. In some ways, I wanted to BE her. Grafton admits that Kinsey is in part her.

However, her older character- Kit Taylor- IS a rather angry reactive woman that helped Grafton deal with her own family situations. It’s hard to like Kit, especially if you have/had addicted people in your life. These few stories made me angry, sad and left me resigned.

I miss and will always miss the letter Z. This book is recommended at 4 stars

Sue Grafton is the best!

Sue never disappoints. She is a long time between books and doesn't just churn out any old thing like other writers. You always know the book is worth the wait. Thanks Sue! You did it again!
