Kodachrome

In 1978 Luigi Ghirri self-published his first book, an avant-garde manifesto for the medium of photography and a landmark in his own remarkable oeuvre. Kodachrome has long been out of print and this edition is published as a facsimile of the original, adopting the original design, text layout and image sequence, but using new image files scanned from Ghirri’s original film to take advantage of modern technology. Also included is an essay by Francesco Zanot, which offers a contemporary perspective on the historical impact of Kodachrome, alongside French and German translations of the original texts from the book (which were published in English and Italian).


Nel 1978 Luigi Ghirri pubblica il suo primo libro, un manifesto d'avanguardia sul medium fotografico e un'opera fondamentale nel suo intero percorso di ricerca artistica. Per molto tempo Kodachrome è rimasto fuori catalogo e questa edizione costituisce un facsimile dell'originale, replicandone il design, i testi e la sequenza di immagini, ma sfrutta i vantaggi della tecnologia moderna con nuove scansioni delle fotografie realizzate a partire dai supporti originali. È inoltre incluso un saggio di Francesco Zanot, che offre una prospettiva contemporanea sull'impatto storico di Kodachrome, oltre alle traduzioni in francese e tedesco dei testi originariamente pubblicati nel libro in lingua italiana e inglese.


Luigi Ghirri publia son premier livre, Kodachrome, en 1978. Manifeste avant-gardiste, déclaration d’intention photographique, il s’agit également d’un point d’ancrage important dans l’oeuvre remarquable de son auteur. Épuisé depuis longtemps, cette nouvelle édition, fidèle a la mise en page originale du livre, s’appuie néanmoins sur les progrès de la technologie moderne, notamment par l’utilisation de nouveaux fichiers produits à partir des originaux de Luigi Ghirri. Elle inclut également un texte inédit de Francesco Zanot, qui offre un point de vue contemporain sur l’importance historique de Kodachrome, ainsi que les traductions française et allemande des textes parus en anglais et italien dans la première édition du livre. 


Mit Kodachrome veröffentlichte Luigi Ghirri 1978 im eigenen Verlag sein erstes Buch – ein zukunftsweisendes Manifest über das Medium Fotografie und ein Meilenstein seines eigenen herausragenden Werks. Das Buch war lange vergriffen. Diese Faksimile-Edition folgt in Layout, Bildabfolge und Begleittexten exakt der Erstausgabe, verwendet jedoch neue Scans von Ghirris originalen Filmen und präsentiert sich damit in Sachen Bildqualität auf dem neuesten Stand. Das Buch begleitet ein Essay von Francesco Zanot über die Bedeutung von Kodachrome für die zeitgenössische Fotografie. Alle Texte sind außer auf Englisch und Italienisch (den Sprachen der Erstausgabe) auch auf Deutsch und Französisch zu lesen.
