Publisher Description
Miss Abigail Wright, disillusioned spinster, hides her secret pain behind encouraging smiles and optimistic laughter. Self-pity, she believes, is for the truly wretched. So when her mother insists she attend a house party—uninvited—she determines to simply make the best of it…until an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction.
Alex Cross, the "Duke of Ice," has more than earned the nickname given him by the ton. He's given up on happiness but will not reject sensual pleasure. After all, a man has needs.
The week ought to have been pleasantly uneventful for both of them, with nature walks, parlor games, and afternoon teas on the terrace…but for some inferior stitchery on poor Abigail's bodice.
And now the duke is faced with a choice. Should he make this mouse a respectable offer and then abandon her to his country estate? She's rather pathetic and harmless, really. Oughtn't to upset his life whatsoever.
His heart, however, is another matter…

Lady saves a Duke
What a beautiful story! I laughed out loud, I cried for Abigail and Alex and rejoiced when they finally found absolution and love. Read this book you won’t regret it! R. K. Carulli
Loved this Story!!!!
Every story this author pens is exceptional. But I was not prepared for the emotions this one brought up because I could feel the despair of the heroine as she tried to make the best of a bad situation! Thinking back on my youth, I could remember a few of those feelings myself! What to do when you end up at a house party and are almost pushed to the attention of a Duke? Not just any duke though, but one labeled the "Duke of Ice"!
My heart went out to Abigail and Alex because they both had been through so much. When fate seems to bring these too souls together in an unexpected way, I could only cheer and hope that they could heal each other!
There are so many words I want to say about this story but I will leave it to you to find out what happens. Annabelle Anders is a master storyteller creating captivating characters that pulled me into the story as she brought them alive! Her insightful descriptions and wonderful words weave a story that will not be soon forgotten. I highly recommend this book and every one she has written!
Good heroine worth reading
It’s a bit clunky in the writing but compelling nevertheless with a a good hero and heroine. I will certainly read more of her books—this is my first. My guess is that she will get better with practice.
