Publisher Description

A magical romance about fate, family, men in kilts, and the sometimes twisted path to love from award-winning author Martina Boone.

"Delightful, charming, and heartwarming!" NYT bestselling author Wendy Higgins

Helping her aunt organize a festival in the Scottish Highlands seems like a welcome escape from Anna Cameron's second broken engagement. The argumentative villagers and dangerous sheep are a setback, but it's Connal MacGregor who poses a bigger problem.

Connal gave up his career and moved to the secluded glen, determined to protect his disfigured daughter after the accident that killed her mother. He can't allow busloads of tourists and journalists onto his property for the annual Sighting ceremony.

For centuries, the romantic tradition of looking into the loch on the first of May to catch a glimpse of the person you are meant to love has been a well-kept local secret. Opening the ceremony to the public, though, could bring in business for the struggling village shops, inns, and bed and breakfasts.

Anna tries to mediate between village's needs and Connal's fight to keep his daughter safe. She finds herself falling in love—with Connal and his fragile daughter, with the villagers, and with the enchanted glen itself. But knowing whom you are meant to love isn't always welcome news. Learning more about the Sighting rips open generations of Anna's family secrets. And when danger comes calling, she and Connal must decide whether they can trust each other—and themselves—enough to let destiny give them a second chance together.

Perfect for fans of Nora Roberts, Kristen Hannah, Susan Wiggs, Sarah Addison Allen's magical women's fiction, and Susanna Kearsley's novels with a historical sense of place, Lake of Destiny offers readers a beautifully romantic story filled with fantasy, love, and healing.

Scotland, Magic and Love

I am so in love with Scotland and I have not even been there yet. I was inspired to read this book with the setting in Scotland and I have plans to go soon. I was totally taken in with the great characters, the detailed beauty of the land, the history and customs and just so much more. I am definitely going to try out the recipes included in the book, so glad to see so much culture and magical legends included in the story, it was definitely a magical read along with a great storyline. The main characters have their own baggage to come to terms with, they all are hiding or escaping from something and they way the townsfolk have a love hate relationship is very interesting. I think a lot of that is true from the old days in Scotland, all the fighting but still having to getting along. I looked up the setting for this story, the Balquhidder Glen, and hope to make a stop there on my trip. Definitely recommend this book.

Wonderfully descriptive story set in Scotland

Lake of Destiny by Martina Boone (5 stars)

Well-developed plot with believable characters. Fun setting in Scotland--the reader got a bit of a taste of the culture there. Plus recipes at the end of the book, and added goody (so to speak)...

I was impressed with Martina's writing. It was compelling and flowed smoothly. It was extremely pleasant to find an ebook written at such a professional level. (So many are only mediocre.) I onlyu give 4-5 star ratings to the best of the best. I'm hopeful that this isn't a first novel because I want to read more of her writing.
