Carlos Alberto Montaner with this exceptionally erudite tome, which brilliantly elucidates the largely inescapable “Zeitgeist” imported to the New World by the Spaniards, Montaner impressively demonstrates how the Spaniards with their inhumanly imposed tyrannical culture, brutally implanted a detrimental cultural-time bomb in the Americas; eventually bearing the bitter fruits of underdevelopment, from which, to this present day Latin America suffers. Yet many Latin American countries unwisely and tenaciously wallow in victimhood and reflexive blaming of wrong culprits ,without honest introspection, which would benefit them towards achieving the ever increasing progress so many other nations have attained. Too many Latin American nations continue their failed Socialistic impulses and policies despite witnessing the non-Spanish speaking nations’ own historical difficulties and challenges in the American Continent as well as worldwide, which; thru logical thinking and responsible action, have archived a much higher standard of living for their populations. Instead of a majority of Hispanics adopting the historically proven successful cultures of Capitalism’s Free Enterprise System, as the obvious successful model to embrace and emulate; a too large sector of Hispanic academics and politicians promulgate Marxist Socialism with the ever present manipulative and empty
excuses, and deflection of responsibility for their very own failures in embracing Socialism, willingly ignoring the results of Hitler’s Socialist Germany, Mao’s Communist China, Lenin’s Soviet Union, North Korea, Pol Pot’s Cambodia, Mugabe’s Zimbabwe, Mandela’s South Africa etc. Not one of these societies are a model of prosperity or individual freedom. All these nations indeed “jumped from the frying pan into the fire”! “Las Raices Torcidas De Latin America” is a vitally needed wake up call to Latin Americans who, hopefully with logic, introspection and knowledge, abandon the inherited traits of Spain’s cultural proclivities and despotism which by cultural rape, impregnated Latin America with a “ruled-by-passion- decision making“ and eschew ( it won’t be easy! )
the pursuit of the enslaving deadly virus of Marxist/Leninist Socialism. Unquestionably history proves Socialism to be an inhuman colossal failure! It is high time for Latin America to logically examine Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, in their own hemisphere, impacted by the unbridled illogical passions and certain abhorrent cultural traits absorbed from Spain, plus their own shortcomings, and take personal responsibility for their chosen outcomes as a people. Only then,if self ruled by a moral compass of Judeo Christian God given absolutes which are driven by virtue, logic, enterprise, self inspecting honesty, knowledge, good will, charity, respect, toil, and adherence to universal concepts of human rights; will Latin America successfully lift itself to join the modern prosperous nations, possessors of unalienable rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”, to quote the exemplary Thomas Jefferson. The exceptional writer Carlos Alberto Montaner in producing the magnificent tome “Las Raises Torcidas De Latin America”, with great scholarly and experiential knowledge, having been born a Latin American, indeed deservedly ascends to the exalted Mount Olympus of authors!
